There are times when I pray that I don't hear a word from the Lord. But then there are times that His voice is loud and clear. I have spent many days praying and doing spiritual warfare on Trump's behalf, since his campaign trail. I prayed with a ferver when he got in and up until recently my spiritual warfare reached a crescendo. That's when the Lord told me to stop praying for Trump. He had him, but He needed me to pray for his church and His remnant. So I did, but in the back of my mind I was trying to understand why.
Spiritual warfare is intense and when you are putting yourself in the gap for someone, their lives become important to you. For example, Jared and Ivanka pushing out those Trump placed in his cabinet and replacing them with more bankers - like in the previous administration. Also selling the same old lies that Obama tried to sell us concerning Assad and his chemical attack on his own people, who he was protecting from Isis. I saw opportunities to keep praying for Trump. Besides where were the spiritual leaders who prayed over him on his campaign trail and prayed at his inauguration?
"It's time." I saw the signs and a few other confirmations, but I couldn't help but think I had failed and I told him so. "You haven't failed."
"But I'm trying to understand what is going on with Trump and why he's not paying attention to what Jared and Ivanka are doing?"
"Don't try to understand just accept what is happening and rest in my word."
Wow! Isaiah 55:8 says it all. "My thoughts are not your thoughts." We don't understand sometimes when God pulls us away from something that has meant so much to us. But He knows what He's doing and we must accept it in faith and move on. There are more opportunities out there that the Lord has for us and more people who need us. I agreed and had noticed that I needed to back away from all this. I needed a rest.
Resting in God's word means to me that I need to get back into the Bible....back to the basics. The one thing that I love to do is read God's word and find new treasures. But it made me curious so I did some research on Biblehub.com and I found this for "resting in the Lord" instead. Here are the results:
Rest in the Lord] Or Be still before (Heb. be silent to) the Lord (R.V. marg.), in the calmness of faith. Cp. Psalm 62:1; Psalm 62:5; and for illustration see Isaiah 7:4; Isaiah 30:15. (Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges)
Verse 7. - Rest in the Lord; literally, be silent; i.e. do not murmur; make no complaint; be silently acquiescent and resigned. And wait patiently for him. Be content to await his time, which is sure to be the right time. Meanwhile possess your soul in patience. Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way (comp. ver. 1, of which this brings out the sense). It is when the ungodly prosper that the righteous are apt to repine. Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. It is the success of the ungodly in their wicked plots and schemes which especially vexes the righteous (see Job 9:24; Job 12:6; Job 21:7-9: 24:2-12; Psalm 72:5-12, etc.). (Pulpit Commentary)
Notice the highlighted words. Being patient, no complaining....Yeah I need a lot of work on that. Being calm. Reading God's word does calm me. I've noticed whenever I'm upset or crying that the Lord will tell me to read His word.
So I let go of it all and got back to my Bible. I'm noticing my love for God's word again and I feel more rested. The Lord is also showing me things I need to deal with, things I spent years pushing aside because I was busy working.
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
Psalm 55:22
My challenge to you -- If you have never read the Bible or have gotten away from it, ask the Lord which book He wants you to start with. Read a chapter or two a day and focus on what God is trying to teach you. Ask Him to show you the treasures that are in His word and write them down in a journal. When you need encouragement, read your entries and you may notice just how much you've grown spiritually.
