Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you"
Jeremiah 1:4-5a
This verse struck me one day and I had to re-read it a few times over. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you." He knew us! I was immediately reminded of my childhood.
I don't remember when my parent's gave me my Magnus organ but it was Christmas and I was still attending catholic school (around 7 years old maybe?). Everyday I would sit there and play songs. I loved feeling the keys as I pressed them and the sound that came from the instrument. It was an awesome feeling. Especially since I couldn't read a blip of music and had to use the sticker helps on the keys. But all that mattered was that I was playing my organ. I may have been in the living room, but in my mind I was in the choir loft of the catholic church, playing the huge pipe organ. Below, the rows of seats were empty, except one. That's where Jesus was. I was playing the organ for the Lord, even though the songs were old folk songs, I was playing them for the Lord. And I always wondered why I felt I had to please God.
The most difficult part for me was that the catholic church taught good works. But how do you do good works when someone else is out doing your works and you keep messing up? The perfectionist I was couldn't deal with that. Lord, I want to make you happy but I keep sinning. I was too young to understand. But I still wanted to please the Lord.
To read that God knew us before we were conceived is mind blowing! It means to me that each and every one of us, our souls, were created in heaven. He spent time with us, probably spoke with us. And when it was our time, the Lord sent us to our mother's womb where he carefully crafted our very being ( Psalm 139:13-18) That's why we have this void within our hearts for something spiritual. It's a void in the shape of God...we are missing Him and searching for Him.
Paul said to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:8: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Finished the good race - this is our life's path, the good race. It's a race back home, back to heaven where we came from. And the only way to do that is to run it with Jesus.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." John 14:6
Unfortunately there are many people who look elsewhere to fill the void in their heart instead of looking to our Creator. Have you? We all have at some point. And there's more. When the Lord spoke about knowing Jeremiah, He also stated to him: "Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:5b.
If the Lord told Jeremiah, before he was born what his calling was, what did He say about us? That's my challenge to you. Ask Him today and keep looking up and letting go. Jesus IS coming and we need to get rid of anything that prevents us from getting closer to Him. Time is running out, accept the Lord's salvation today!
